London Bridge

London Bridge connects the Southwark and City of London districts. Until 1750, it was the only bridge over the River Thames, due to which all trade was concentrated in its close vicinity (including the famous Borough Market).

In fact, the name London Bridge refers to all bridges that have been in this place over the centuries. The first wooden bridge was probably built already in the time of the Romans. The next constructions were destroyed during wars, lost the fight against the elements (tornado, fire) or over time, but the bridge was always rebuilt. This gave rise to the children's song "London bridge is falling down", which is known to almost every English few-year-old.

The current bridge was put into operation in 1973. Its "predecessor" was demolished in 1968, and granite blocks from the original structure sold to an American entrepreneur who in Lake Havasu City (Arizona) created a replica of the London bridge.
