Brixton Windmill
A historic mill in the heart of London that was erected here in 1816. Brixton Windmill was created for the needs of the miller dynasty, founded by John Ashby. Today we can find out how flour was obtained and still obtained, participate in workshops and review lessons, as well as buy original products.
The place is very popular among both adults and children. Special events, activities for the youngest, and even workshops for the miller are held here.
In the municipality of Lambeth we will find only one still working mill, Brixton Windmill, although historical documents indicate that there was a significant number of them here. However, with the expansion of London in the mid-nineteenth century, buildings overtook arable land and commune fields, and most windmills were lost. The presence of Brixton Windmill is not only a tourist attraction: it also reminds Londoners of the close links between capital and agriculture and food production.
