Brixton Market
Brixton Market is called the African-Caribbean center of London, both because of the area in which it is located and the products it sells. Although you can buy almost anything here, this place is most famous for selling products characteristic of African and Caribbean cuisine, such as patties, peppers, snails and flying fish. Next to the open-air market there are arcades, under which there is a shopping gallery.
The bazaar's history dates back to the 1870s. A market was established on nearby Atlantic Road, which gradually moved to Brixton Road. At the same time, the district was developing intensively, and many new institutions and stores were created around it. The market itself was then a popular place not only because of the goods sold, but also the musicians performing here. In the 1920s and 1930s, three roofed and glazed arcades were built in the vicinity of the bazaar, under which a shopping gallery was arranged.
