Waterlow Park
Waterlow Park is located in the southeast of Highgate Village in North London. There are three ponds, a playground for children under six and a café. Sports lovers can take advantage of the tennis court. The park lies on a hill, which provides a panoramic view of part of the city. It houses the 16th-century Lauderdale House, which hosts exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events.
Many species of animals live in the park. You can find foxes, gray squirrels, bats and hedgehogs here. Above the ponds you can see mallards, coots, Canadian geese and herons. Sometimes you can see kingfishers. There are also thrushes, blackbirds and robins. There is also a small population of amphibians: frogs, toads and newts.
The park was donated to the needs of the community in 1889. Its owner, Sir Sydney Waterlow said at the time that he was offering "a garden for those who do not have a garden."
