Chichester Harbour AONB
Chichester Harbor is one of four, along with Portsmouth, Langstone and Pagham, a large natural harbor in this region of the coast. Chichester is a very popular place among sailors and bird lovers. There are several sailing clubs here, and around 13,000 use the port during the year. vessels. Every year in the port and around it nests or stops during long flights of about 50,000 different species of birds.
Due to the ecological wealth (apart from birds, dozens of species of sea fish, many protected plants) the entire area of the port is included in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty project and protected. Chichester Harbor Conservancy was established to manage this area in 1971, whose duty is to protect and preserve the natural values of this place. For lovers of nature and active recreation in the area numerous hiking and cycling routes, fishing grounds and ecological paths have been marked out. Sea trips are also offered, among which a special attraction is the Solar Heritage catamaran trip, powered by solar energy - it moves almost silently, which allows you to get as close to the bird habitats as possible.
The port of Chichester is one of the few areas in southern England that has been preserved almost in their original, ecologically intact condition. Particularly long tides occurring here (at low tide, the sea reveals extensive areas of the bottom full of crustaceans, molluscs and small fish), make the port area a giant feeding ground for waterfowl.
