South Downs National Park
South Downs National Park includes chalky hills, cliffs, and forested hills and valleys. One of the National Trails routes, called South Downs Way, runs through it. It is 160 km long and is the only long-distance trail that is entirely in the national park. There are also many walking and cycling paths stretching over 3200 km.
The park was created in 2011, which makes it the youngest place of this type in all of Great Britain. It is worth noting, however, that plans for its creation date back to 1947. In addition to natural areas, archaeological monuments were also protected, including the Cissbury Ring, the second-largest Roman fort in Great Britain.
In the park, scenes were shot for films such as "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves" with Kevin Costner and to one of the adventures of James Bond, "In the Face of Death." In the latter case, the Beachy Head cliffs served as Gibraltar.
