Arundel Castle

Arundel Castle is a restored and rebuilt medieval castle, being the ancestral seat of the Norfolk princes. Currently, most of the castle and the vast areas adjacent to it are open to the public. Particularly noteworthy are the vineyard, the 19th-century walled kitchen garden and the Fitzalan chapel with its own white garden. In 2008, a new garden was opened, The Collector Earl's Garden, in memory of the 14th Earl of Arundel, an art collector. It includes domed pergola.

The castle was built as a knight's motte residence on the orders of Roger de Montgomery in 1067. It was destroyed during the English Civil War in 1642-51, but in the 18th and 19th centuries it was fully rebuilt and restored.

In 1846, the castle was visited by Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert. The then Earl of Norfolk rebuilt the property due to this visit. A new apartment block was created for the monarch. It was decorated with precious Victorian furniture and works of art.
