Nidderdale AONB
Nidderdale is an Area of Exceptional Natural Beauty (AONB), bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Also includes the Washburn Valley and part of Lower Wensleydale, including the Abbey of Jervaulx. You can organize hiking, climbing the surrounding peaks and riding horses and mountain bikes. At night, this area is one of the darkest in the country, which allows you to observe the sky and stars. You can also kayak and visit the caves.
There are many species of birds in Nidderdale AONB. Among the predatory species that hunt especially in the heaths, the harrier and two falcon species - the dragonfly and the peregrine falcon - are noteworthy. Other birds include seedlings, balls, lapwings and bloody beards.
The only city in Nidderdale AONB is the small Pateley Bridge. It houses the oldest candy store in England, founded in 1827 in a building from 1661. The town also has the Nidderdale Museum.
