Archaeological Site of St. Pierre Cathedral

Local name: Site archéologique de la Cathédrale Saint-Pierre

In the basement of the Saint-Pierre cathedral in Geneva, the archaeological site is open to the public, which is one of the largest facilities of this type in Europe. The remains presented here illustrate the main stages of the history of Geneva, from antiquity to the Middle Ages, and multimedia visualizations.

The first stand installed an audiovisual presentation on the history of the city. The next stand is the northern cathedral, the oldest element of the entire complex. Next are the rooms of the monks, the next stand is Geneva in the 6th century, the next is the choir's liturgical equipment.

Other stands include the 11th-century cathedral, the eastern cathedral, another audiovisual exhibition - about the 30-year period of archaeological excavations in Saint-Pierre, the Allobrog tomb, the Roman crypt, the first-century official building, the bishop's reception hall and other multimedia exhibitions regarding history and archeology.
