Gustav III Antique Museum
Local name: Gustav III:s antikmuseum
Museum of antiquity of Gustav III, which is located in the Royal Palace in Stockholm. It was established to commemorate the Swedish king. It belongs to the oldest European museums: it opened its doors in 1794. We can admire a collection of objects and works from the antiquity period.
The museum's collection includes the achievements of King Gustav III, a lover of ancient art. Initially, there were only about 200 exhibits that the ruler bought during his trip to Italy at the end of the 18th century. The monarch was murdered, and his collection was decided to make available to the public to commemorate the figure of Gustav III. Interestingly, the exhibition setting has not changed since the 18th century. The most popular is the statue representing the mythological Endymion and the sculpture "Priestess" by Johan Tobias Sergel.
