Manacor is the second largest city in Majorca and a large industrial and service center. It is also developing as a tourist center, thanks to its nice beaches and interesting caves nearby.
The city was founded in the Middle Ages and was mainly an agricultural center. It was not until the 19th century that the processing industry began to develop here, and in the 20th century the coast around Manacor became a popular holiday destination. There are sheltered sandy beaches such as Cala Varques Beach and Cala Murta Beach. A rocky coast rises around them, and they are separated from the buildings by pine groves.
Not much has survived from the original Manacor buildings. You can watch, among others The Serral dels Falcons tower, with a vantage point and a defensive tower from the 14th century, which is the seat of the Monacor History Museum. The most impressive building is the monumental Church of Our Lady of Sorrows. There are also historic industrial facilities in the city, such as a still-working factory of artificial pearls that can be visited.
The vicinity of Manacor is known for its caves, which were formed in limestone rocks and the substrate. The most famous of them are the Drac, Hams and Pirata Caves, which are among the greatest attractions of Majorca.
