Bellver Castle

The Gothic castle was built on a circular plan. It is surrounded by a moat and has several watchtowers. It is worth paying attention to the inner courtyard and cloister. Currently, the fortress has a City History Museum presenting collections in the field of archeology and Roman times. Most of the collections were created from the transfer of private collections of Cardinal Antonio Despuig. The castle has an observation deck offering a very good view of the city panorama and the sea line. The building is surrounded by a forest.

The castle was built in the fourteenth century on a high hill to defend the island from the sea by the order of King James II. At the same time, the royal family resided in it. In the 18th century, the fortress was transformed into a prison. In turn, in the nineteenth century there was a state mint. In the 20th century, the building was adapted for the museum.
