Santa María del Silencio Church

Local name: Iglesia Santa María del Silencio

The Madrid Santa Maria del Silencio church is part of the buildings of the former Workers' Hospital of Saint. Francis of Paola also known as the Maudes Hospital. The most important elements of the church are four towers, three bells in two bell towers, a dome, carved limestone facades with a ceramic coating.

The hospital was established in the years 1908 - 1916. A part of it was the patients' chapel, which in time became the parish church of Santa Maria del Silencio. Antonio Palacios and Joaquín Otamendi Machimbarren are responsible for the design of the hospital complex along with the church, commissioned by benefactor Dolores Romero Arano. The hospital complex is a stone building.

Ceramic exterior decorations were made by Daniel Zaloaga, while interior ceramics was created by Manuel Rejano. Over time, the hospital team lost its function and fell into disrepair. In the eighties, it was restored, administrative facilities were set up in hospital buildings, and a parish church was built in the chapel.
