Real Monasterio de la Encarnacion is a monastery of the Augustinian sisters. Due to the possession of works of art it is one of the most beautiful temples in Madrid. There is a museum here belonging to the collections of the Spanish national heritage. In the main altar you can see the "Annunciation" by Vicente Carducho, and on both sides images of St. Augustine and his mother Saint. Monika.
In the relic hall you can find m. blood ampoule Pantaleon. Every year, on July 27, the substance miraculously turns into liquid. The monastery also has an important collection of paintings and sculptures, among them the works of Lucas Jordan, Juan van der Hamen, Pedro de Men, José de Mora and Gregorio Fernández.
The monastery was founded in 1611 to commemorate Margaret Austria, wife of Philip III. The architect of the building was Alberto de la Madre de Dios, who built it in 1611-1616. The modest herrerian façade was often imitated by other Spanish temples.
