Almudena Cathedral is the only sacred building of this type in the city. From the side of the main facade you can admire the historic statues of the Virgin of Almunden and Spanish saints - Izydor, Maria, Teresa from Baby Jesus and Fernanda.
Its construction began in the nineteenth century, and it was only completed in 1993. In architectural terms it combines three styles: neoclassical, neo-Gothic and neo-Roman. In the cathedral, you can see frescoes and paintings by many esteemed artists, but one of the most beautiful decorations are stained glass, through which colorful light flows into the interior, coloring the walls of the temple.
It was built on a Latin cross plan. Neo-Gothic elements dominate inside, which have been harmoniously combined with other styles, an example is the 16th-century Neo-Roman painting depicting the Virgin of Almunden.
