Gambrinus Lobster Statue is a giant sculpture depicting a smiling lobster, made of fiberglass. The ten-meter-long crustacean is the work of the Spanish artist Javier Mariscal. Today it is one of the most characteristic attractions of the city, admired by tourists walking around Passeig de Colom.
The great lobster was initially the most important element of the decor of the popular Gambrinus restaurant, which served seafood. After closing the restaurant, the sculpture was bought by the city and it was thoroughly restored.
The lobster creator is an artist and founder of the Mariscal Studio, popular all over Spain. He is known primarily from the design of Cobie, the mascots of the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. Cobi is a Catalan shepherd represented in a cubist style.
