The extensive historic square is the oldest historic square in Timisoara. It is 150 m long and 110 m wide. It was arranged in a baroque style. Most of the buildings surrounding it have the status of historical monuments. Among them, there is the Roman Catholic cathedral from the 18th century, the Serbian Orthodox cathedral and the Baroque palace.
When visiting the square, it is worth paying attention to the complex of four adjoining houses of canons, the Baroque-Art Nouveau palace, the House of Lions, and the restored, historic Brück House. In the center of the square there is a fountain and a monument dedicated to the Holy Trinity, erected in 1740 to commemorate the end of the plague epidemic that had hit the city's inhabitants a few years earlier.
Today, the square houses several restaurants and cafes that put tables and chairs outside in spring and summer. City festivals and concerts are also held here.
