The historic square is located in the center of the Old Town. It is surrounded by historic buildings. The most important is the Baroque-Renaissance Old Town Hall built in the 18th century on the foundations of the Turkish bath. There is also a former military casino from the western part of the square, and now the command center of the municipal garrison.
In front of the town hall there is a monument depicting the Virgin Mary and Saint. John of Nepomuk. It was made of sandstone in the mid-eighteenth century. It was erected to commemorate the victims of the plague of 1738 and 1739 and an expression of gratitude to God for ending the epidemic. On the square there is also a small fountain and a monument depicting the bust of the last king of Dacia, Decebalus
In 2014-2015 the square was revitalized. Tall trees and green space were removed. Currently, the square is almost entirely lined with red-gray cubes arranged in concentric rings.
