The public garden was established in 1846 on the initiative of Iorga Ghica, a friend of the then hospodar Mikhail Sturdza. At that time, 3,500 trees were planted there. Currently, there are extensive recreational areas where city events are regularly organized.
At the entrance to the garden, there is a statue of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza by Ion Jalea. In the center of the garden there is a marble artesian well, built in 1964. It is decorated with decorative mosaics.
