Jardim do Roseiral, or rose garden, is one of the terraced gardens located in the vicinity of the Crystal Palace. It owes its name to rose bushes, which together with other plants create geometric shapes, which are a mapping of the architecture of the old town hall, demolished in 1916. The rose garden also serves as a decoration of the house, which is the official residence of the mayor of Porto - Casa do Roseiral. Although the building is uninhabited, it serves all protocol ceremonies, as well as official visits.
There are also other attractions nearby. On the west side of the gardens is Quinta da Macieirinha, a 19th century farm where Carlos Alberto spent his last days. There is a Museum of Romanticism with collections dedicated to this era and to Carlos Alberto himself. The City Library, City Art Gallery and the famous Avenida das Tílias Avenue are also nearby.
