The Church of Mercy in Porto was built in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. The interior has one nave with brick stucco vaulting, and the walls are lined with blue and white tiles. The most valuable elements of the decor include a neoclassical gilded cross, a chapel with marble urns with ashes of João Teixeira Guimarães and D. Lopo de Almeida, and side altars with valuable paintings. The temple also has a beautiful, decorative facade.
The interior of the temple, despite the baroque decorative elements, maintains the rawness characteristic of Mannerist architecture. This church is currently owned by the Brotherhood of the Holy House of Mercy in Porto, founded on March 14, 1498. In 2015, it became part of the Porto Misericórdia Museum. You can visit not only the interior of the temple, but also the sacristy and other rooms inaccessible on a daily basis.
