Exhibition of Oriental Rugs
Local name: Kolekcja Kobierców Wschodnich
Presented in the Palace of the Underworld, the collection of Eastern Ladies is a significant part of the private collection of Teresa Sahakian. It consists of about 600 exhibits from four regions: Persian, Anatolian, Central Asian and Caucasian. The exhibition is complemented by collections of European art and eastern embroidery, fabrics and rugs.
The collection of carpets was collected for decades by a Belgian Polish woman who donated her collection to the Royal Castle in 1990. The monuments date from the 18th to the 20th centuries and have been systematized from ten thematic categories, including Caucasian and Persian rugs inspired by European motives, Turkish rugs, Central Asian rugs and European art collections. Caucasian art is the most represented.
Presented since 1990, it was transformed after the renovation of the palace under the roof. The current exhibition is shown in the new arrangement, and the carpets on it are part of a large collection, carefully selected in the subject.
