The Neo-Renaissance Church of St. Charles of Borromeo is dedicated to the commemoration of fallen and murdered in the East. It consists of the cross blessed by Primate Józef Glemp, plaques with surnames of murdered officers, and also the skull of one of the Katyn massacre victims.
A tragical event for the church was the Warsaw Uprising during which the dome collapsed and part of the roof and monumental belfry were destroyed. The church has been renovated and extended many times. Its interior consist of sculptures of apostles - Saint Peter and Saint Paul - and the Church Fathers. It also houses the copy of painting Our Lady of Katyn. The side altars are the only original parts of the church's equipment.Especially worthy of attention is Sanctuary commemorating Katyn massacre victims. The wall is covered with about 1000 plaques dedicated to Polish people who were murdered or went missing in the Soviet Union. The reliquary with the skull of the officer murdered in Katyn is built in under the cross.Less
