Pawiak Prison Museum

Prison Prison Museum was initiated by its former prisoners. This part of the Independence Museum commemorates all those who have suffered and fought for their homeland and those who gave Poland their life.

The museum building is not the original prison building, but it was built on the foundations of the Pawiak. However, the prison was reconstructed - many elements found in the ruins of the destroyed Pawiak (including grates, locks and fittings) were used.

Reconstruction of the Pawiak reminds of a very bitter moment in Polish history and the memory of those who have been sent to prison as political prisoners, resistance activists or rounds. Pawiak prison in these very difficult times for Poland was over tens of thousands of people.
