Castle Island on Góreckie Lake

Local name: Wyspa Zamkowa na Jeziorze Góreckim

Castle Island is located on Lake Górecki. Its area is part of the Wielkopolski National Park. The ruins of the first neo-Gothic romantic castle surrounded by a park stand on it. Until the November Uprising, it was inhabited by the Potoccy people.

Castle Island is a post-glacial hillock that protrudes above the waters of Lake Górecki. It is overgrown with beeches and oaks, as well as exotic species of trees for these areas, which are the remains of the park. The island has an area of 1.25 ha.

In the years 1824-1825, Tytus Działyński built a romantic castle on the island, looking like a Gothic defensive structure. He gave it to his sister, Klaudyna, who married Bernard Potocki. The spouses lived on the island until the November Uprising, when they moved to Warsaw. The castle was destroyed in 1848 during the Spring of Nations.

Today, there are only picturesque ruins hidden among the wild park. Brick walls with ogival windows and a round tower have survived.
