Museum of Folk Musical Instruments

Local name: Muzeum Ludowych Instrumentów Muzycznych

Located inside: Szydłowiec Castle

Located in Szydłowiec Castle, the museum is the first object of that type in the world. It is dedicated to instruments made by folk artists and musicians and related to rural culture. The facility organizes numerous concerts, exhibitions, and contests.

Some of the presented exhibits are the only existing copies. They were collected in the period between the 1950s and 1970s. The museum's collection includes about 2000 monumental and original objects, from simple to very complex works. There are basolias, hurdy-gurdies, sukas, kettledrums from the 16th century, squeezeboxes, cellos, cimbaloms, pipes, and many more.

The exposition is divided into two parts. The first one is dedicated to Polish bands and musical instruments while the second presents old rural instruments. An addition to the exposition are recordings of displayed instruments.
