The Diocesan Museum was established as a museum of the diocese of Podlasie. Later, it was moved to Siedlce. The official opening took place in 2000. The museum consists of symbolic monuments of sacral art. The biggest attraction is, however, the only in Poland original painting by Spanish painter El Greco - "Saint Francis of Assisi in Ecstasy" from 1578. The painting depicts the saint in the moment of getting stigmata.
The collection contains paintings, sculptures, documents, liturgic robes, and also church equipment and portraits. The museum also houses numerous old prints and tomb portraits referring to the ideology of Sarmatism. Worthy of attention are also souvenirs related to the visit of Pope John Paul II in Siedlce. There is also an opportunity to listen to the church's choir. The facility organizes museum lessons for youth and adolescents.Less
