Church of the Holy Cross

Local name: Kościół św. Krzyża

It is one of the smallest churches in Poland. It is characterized by beautiful late baroque and rococo architecture and also by the main altar and the chapel. What is interesting, building consists of three parts: the school - Stanisław Konarski High School No. 1, Regional Museum and the church. The complex was entered in the register of objects of cultural heritage in 1979.

Nave, two towers and chapel are characteristic elements of the building. Moreover, the inscription plaque of Lubomirski family can be found above the main portal while the relief of crucified Christ can be spotted near the altar. Large statues of Mother of God and Saint John that are placed on the sides are also worthy of attention. Every sculpture comes from late baroque.

It is possible to get into the tower of the Church of the Holy Cross and see monumental church doors, beautiful panorama of the old town and clock's mechanism installed there in the 17th century.

The Church of the Holy Cross in Rzeszów was built in 1645 by Zofia Prudencjanna Ostrogska. In the beginning, the church was supposed to be a home for the Poor Clare sisters but plans had changed. King Władysław IV brought there Piarists, what resulted in the development of education.
