Lubomirski Castle in Rzeszów

Local name: Zamek Lubomirskich

Rzeszów Castle was built at the beginning of the 20th century in the place of the demolished castle of the Lubomirski family. Design of the new building was based on the 18th century ideas found in Karol Wiedemann plans. Thanks to these documents, three-stories building with four wings and courtyard was built. To this day, it can be viewed in an unchanged form.

The first defensive structure built in this area dates back to the 16th century. Mikołaj Spytek Ligęza of the Półkozic coat of arms built the mansion there. In the 17th century, it was owned by the Lubomirski family. The building underwent reconstruction supervised by Tylman van Gameren and Karol Henryk Wiedemann. The castle started to fall into ruin when was seized by Austrians. It functioned as a prison and no one cared about its conservation.

Because of its very bad technical condition, the building was completely demolished and built anew at the beginning of the 20th century. The only architectonic part that preserved until today is the tower gate.
