History of Market Square in Rzeszów dates back to the 15th century, times when the market was very vibrant. The current look of the market is much different from its original form, what is the result of a great fire which broke out in the 19th century. Statue of Tadeusz Kościuszko, monumental well and the city hall can be found here. The network of cellars and passages, which was used for business and defense purposes, is located under the old town.
The surface of the market is covered by antique pavement. The city hall is a dominant building, from which tower the city's trumpet call plays 7 times a day. It was composed by Tomasz Stańko, jazz trumpeter. Three frontages that surround the market mainly consist of tenement houses which are locations for restaurants, cafes, pubs, hotels and museums. Underground Tourist Route can be found near the city hall.Market Square in Rzeszów is also a center for cultural events and social meetings.
