The 3 May street is the oldest street in the city. It was supposed to connect two important city buildings: the parish church from the 14th century and the castle from the 15th century. The monumental buildings, especially secession tenement house of Tekielski, can be admired during the walk down the present street.
The first name of this street was Ku Piarum Scholarum, however that changed repeatedly in the later years. The historic documents provide with such names as Pijarska, Pańska and Szeroka street. Among the inhabitants of Rzeszów, it is commonly known as Paniaga.Nowadays, the 3 May street is a vibrant center of the city's commerce. Car traffic has been limited there in order to make more space for the pedestrian and bikers promenade. The monumental tenement houses and statues of Stanisław Konarski and Tadeusz Nalepa make it an attractive place for tourists.Less
