Presidential nuclear shelter

Local name: Prezydencki schron przeciwatomowy

Presidential nuclear shelter is a place where one can step back in time by several dozen years. Declassified in the beginning of 21st century, a shelter was destined for Poznań authorities. Original equipment from 1950s and 1960s was preserved here.

The shelter was built in 1956 under the villa on Słupska Street 62. It was supposed to act as a place of refuge for the city president and high ranking officials in case of an atomic attack. It was also meant to act as a command center of Civil protection. The facility was classified and only in 2000 they informed about its existence, and 10 years later its location was given. From 2013, the shelter is open to visitors.

On the area of 500 square meters there are conference rooms, command positions and social rooms, where officials were supposed to reside. Thanks to the fact, that the building was classified, its equipment from the turn of 1950s and 1960s has been preserved intact. There are power generators, air filters, communication and control equipment, staff maps, telephones, furniture and other everyday items.
