The Golden Chapel, also called the Chapel of Polish Kings, is located in the axis of the Poznań Cathedral. The chapel has obtained its current Byzantine style in years 1836-1837.
In the chapel there is a sarcophagus with the remains of prince Mieszko I, King Bolesław I the Brave, and medallions with 34 oldest noble Polish coats of arms and eight shields with coats of arms of chapter houses of the oldest dioceses. Moreover, it is worth paying attention to the altar with a mosaic showing the Assumption of Mary.In the Golden Chapel there are statues of Christ and four apostles, as well as six zinc statues of saints and martyrs. The whole is complemented by a mosaic floor made by artist Salandri of Venice.Less
