Museum of the Wielkopolska Uprising of 1918-1919 in Poznań is situated in the guardroom building, which stands for the old military watchtower. In this nice, classicist building they gathered a collection of the souvenirs from the only one independence break, that succeeded. One can see pictures, documents, insurgent banners and pieces of uniforms and armaments of insurgents. The exhibition is completed by multimedia presentations.
Building of the Poznań guardroom is a classicist building from the end of the 18th century. It was a seat of a Municipal guard and the police. It is a low, ground-floor building. The facade is covered with a porch supported by Tuscan columns. Above the entrance is the coat-of-arms cartouche of King Stanisław August Poniatowski and the coat of arms of Poznań and the Raczyński family.Museum of the Wielkopolska Uprising documents the history of the independence movement in Wielkopolska. It focuses on the souvenirs from the time of the independence break 1918-1919, but one can also gain knowledge about the period from the beginning of 19th century until the outbreak of the Second World War.
