Lesser Basilica of St. Stanislaus

Local name: Fara Poznańska

The parish church (Fara) in Poznan, or Collegiate Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Saint Mary Magdalene is a 16th-century temple considered one of the most impressive Baroque sacral buildings in Poland. The building enraptures with its richly decorated facade and beautiful interior, where visitors can admire, among others, charming paintings, the main altar, and antique pipe organs.

The main nave contains massive columns, which only serve as decorative features. Additionally, one can admire the vault there, which is covered with beautiful paintings. They depict scenes from the life of Saint Stanislaus and the elevation of the holy Jesuits. There is also the main altar presenting the miracle of Piotr Piotrowin's resurrection and the sculpture of Saint Stanisław Kostka repelling a seven-headed beast.

It is also worth seeing organs from the 19th century. There is a legend associated with them, according to which sometimes, during works related to organs, a woman wearing black appears on the balcony. Reputedly it is a ghost of the benefactor who looks after her gift.

Besides the beautiful interior, the parish also has an equally beautiful facade. It is decorated with a Baroque portal, over which there is a niche where a statue of Saint Ignatius of Loyola is placed. At his feet an eagle fighting with a snake is shown. On the sides of niche there are two other niches with statues of saints.
