The museum documents and presnts the martyrdom of the inhabitants of the region during the World War II. Its headquarters is Fort VII Colomb of the Poznań Fortress. During the World War II, a concentration camp had operated on its territory. In the museum are held camp documents, letters, memorabilia of prisoners, and everyday objects.
Fort VII had been built at the end of the 19th century. It was one of 18 forts of the Poznań Fortress. The toughest fights had taken place there during the Greater Poland Uprising. During World War II, on its territory, the Germans created the KL Posen concentration camp, where for the first time in history, gas was used to murder civilians. Currently, research is ongoing to determine the number of victims who died in Fort VII.The Museum of Martyrdom of Grater Poland was established in the 1960s. In Fort VII, documents and photos of prisoners, objects made by them, including rosaries and figurines of bread, correspondence, and items used in KL Posen are presented.Less
