Enigma Cryptologist Monument

Local name: Pomnik Kryptologów

Enigma Cryptologist Monument is situated in Poznań in front of the entrance to the Imperial Castle. It is dedicated to Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski, who broke the code of the German encryption machine “Enigma”.

The monument was unveiled in 2007. Its designers were: Grażyna Bielska- Kozakiewicz and Mariusz Kozakiewicz. For the location of the obelisk, an entrance to the castle was chosen. During interwar period, it was a seat of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of University of Poznań, which were completed by eminent cryptologists.

It has a shape of a regular prism based on a triangle. On its walls, strings of numbers were placed, into which the names of the mathematicians trio were inserted. It was a way to pay homage to the science, which played a role in winning the war by Allies. According to its creators, obelisk is not only to remind of Rejewski, Różycki and Zygalski, but also to praise the power of the human mind.
