Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Consolation

Local name: Kościół Serca Pana Jezusa i Matki Bożej Pocieszenia

It is the oldest temple of left-bank Poznań. Visitors can see here partly preserved early-gothic city walls from the half of the 13th century, together with a precious early-gothic portal, as well as 18th century frescoes, baroque pulpit and a painting of Our Lady of the Rosary.

History of the church dates back to 13th century, however at the turn of the centuries it was rebuilt several times, and its present shape emerged at the beginning of the 18th century. It is a single-nave building with a dome. Its simple interior is ornamented with duplicated pilasters and broken cornices and 18th century frescos. In presbytery there are late-renaissance, richly carved backs of choir stalls. The oldest relic in the temple is late-gothic baptismal font ornamented with a bas-relief showing a scene of a crucifixion.

From the northern side of the church there is an adjacent chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary from 15th century. Its interior is made in neo-gothic style with interesting polychrome. In the altar, a miraculous painting of Our Lady of the Rosary crowned in 1968, is placed.
