Wielki Szyszak - 1509 m
Local name: Wielki Szyszak - 1509 m n.p.m.
Wielki Szyszak is a peak in the Karkonosze with a height of 1509 m above sea level. In terms of height, it is the second, after Śnieżka, highest peak in the Polish part of the Karkonosze. The Polish border with the Czech Republic crosses the top of the peak. The peak is accessible to tourists, a stone road leads to it from the Czarna Przełęcz side.
The road to the top, running from the east, was founded in the 19th century by the Schaffgotsch family. After the unification of German countries, in honor of the German Emperor Wilhelm I, in 1888 a stone pyramid with the engraved letter W and an eagle statue was installed on the top.
Wielki Szyszak is the highest peak of the Karkonosze, made of granite. The slopes are covered with gołoborze. It covers part of the area of the Karkonosze National Park and the Czech Karkonosze National Park. It is located in the vicinity of the Łabski Peak, Śnieżne Kotłów and Śmielec. Previously, the summit was called the Great Circle. The name "Wielki Szyszak" was used to describe the neighboring summit, now Śmielec. The name changes, although only in Polish names, were made after World War II.
