In the isolated valley among the Bieszczady mountains, there is a stone Orthodox church entered in the register of monuments, which is a remnant of the village of Łopienka that used to exist there. In the extraordinary austere interior of the temple of Saint Martyr Paraskeva of the Balkans can be seen, among others, the figure of Christ of the Bieszczady Mountains and a copy of the wonderful 18th-century icon of Our Lady of Łopienka, which original is kept in the church in Polańczyk. At the church there is also a rebuilt tomb chapel, belfry, and a cemetery with two preserved tombstones.
Dated to the first half of the 19th century, the church replaced the previous, wooden temple, built as a shelter for the icon of the Mother of God, which, according to the legend, miraculously appeared on the growing lime tree there. In the 19th century, Łopienka was a famous centre of Marian cult - pilgrims from distant lands used to come to indulgences that were taking place there. After the displacements that took place after World War II, the village ceased to exist, and the abandoned church has been gradually falling into ruin.In the 1970s, the initiator of the renovation of a declining temple was the conservator of monuments, Olgierd Latoczko. In 1983, thanks to Zbigniew Kaszuba, began the renovation works that lasted over two decades.Less
