Marek Edelman Dialogue Centre is a cultural institution which main goal is cultivation of the memory of the multi-ethnic character of pre-war Łódź. The modern Centre building is located in the middle of the Park of Survivors where trees symbolize people who survived the decommissioning of the Łódź ghetto. The Centre organizes exhibitions, thematic walks, concerts, performances, workshops and conferences that are aimed at bringing closer the cultural distinctiveness of the groups that had been living before the war in the industrial Łódź.
The centre has been existing since 2010. Four years earlier, during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the decommissioning of the Łódź ghetto, the idea of creating a park commemorating the survivors was born. Then, the first 387 trees were planted in a row. With the passing time, a monument of survivors in the shape of the Star of David was built in the park.In 2010, the activity of the Marek Edelman's Centre of Dialogue was inaugurated. There are temporary exhibitions dedicated to various aspects of multiculturalism and the history of Jews in Łódź. The Centre also documents the activities of the Righteous Among the Nations. A big number of cultural events, performances, concerts and conferences take place in the Centre.Less
