The Grand Theatre in Łódź specializes in musical work. First and foremost, operas, operettas, and musicals are shown there. It is the second largest operatic venue in Poland. The building in socialist realism style belongs to the flagship projects from the middle of the 20th century. The building has a monumental facade with a colonnade perched on the arcades that are placed in front of the building. Since 1968, the Łódź Ballet Meetings have been held at the Theatre.
The construction of the Grand Theatre began in 1949. Due to the location of the building in the wetland, construction has been extended to 18 years. The operatic action itself was inaugurated in 1954, however in a different place. The musicians moved to the new, monumental building in 1968.In 2012, the building of the Grand Theatre underwent a thorough refurbishment. Apart from renewing the columnar facade, the interior has been modernized. Thanks to this, the comfort of performances reception has improved. The auditorium in the main hall has over 1,000 seats. Not only performances, but also concerts, mass events, and festivals are held in the Theatre.Less
