Tomicki Chapel is located in the east part of the ambulatory of the Wawel Cathedral. It is a Renaissance mausoleum of Bishop Tomicki built in the place of the former Gothic chapel by Berecci. The impressive tombstone which can be found here is also one of his works.
Tomicki Chapel is a simple building on square plan covered by dome without a tholobate. Because of that, adding windows to the room was necessary. The impressive sarcophagus of Bishop Tomicki is located here. It was made of Hungarian red marble in the 16th century. The sculpted depiction of the bishop seems to be in a calm sleep. The original decor of the chapel was significantly richer. Today, walls are merely decorated with horizontal cornices and small rose windows. The silver coffin with the remains of Wincenty Kadłubek is also located here.Less
