Hutten-Czapski Museum

Local name: Muzeum Emeryka Hutten-Czapskiego

Hutten-Czapski Museum is the largest and oldest department of the National Museum in Kraków. Its headquarters are located in Czapski Palace, built at the end of the 19th century in neo-classic style. The exposition presents the detailed history of Polish mintage. The rich collection of old coins can be admired here.

Emeryk Hutten-Czapski, a famous collector of old money, gathered a lot of priceless coins, bank notes, and Polish medals. After his death, the collection was passed to the private museum, located in the pavilion attached to the palace. At the beginning of the 20th century, wife and sons of Czapski donated the entire collection to the National Museum.

The present collection consists of 100 thousand items of which 2500 are permanently displayed. They can be admired in monumental interiors of the palace. The garden with hundred years old forest stand and part of the lapidarium are behind the building. The museum organizes workshops, shows, and conferences.
