Collegium Maius is the oldest building of the Jagiellonian University, slightly younger than the univeristy itself. The building was constructed in the 15th century and rebuilt in Neo-Gothic style in the years between 1839-1858. Today, it is the headquarters of the Jagiellonian University Museum. It presents monumental objects and scientific tools from various disciplines, and also paintings, sculptures, and handicrafts.
What brings attention the most is the courtyard with a Gothic portal surrounded by cloisters. There is a well in the center. The clock which plays a part of court music and the song "Gaudeamus igitur" at certain times can be seen on the wall. The music is accompynied by the "march" of figures of people important to the university.Proffesor Garden, which was renovated in 2010, is located nearby. There is also a cafe in the underground.Less
