Main Square

Local name: Rynek Główny

The Main Square in Cracow is not only the biggest square in the city but also one of the biggest squares in Europe. Almost every tenement house surrounding the square is monumental. Shops, restaurants and museums are located inside them. Famous monuments of the city can also be found there: the 12th century Church of Saint Wojciech, city hall tower, the Cracow Cloth Hall, Adam Mickiewicz Monument, Saint Mary's Church.

The undergrounds are equally interesting. It's not only the Museum of Underground Square, opened in 2010, but also the spacious cellars such as Piwnica pod Baranami (the most popular) and cafe Pod Ratuszem, and the mini archeological museum located in the Church of Saint Wojciech undergrounds.

The Main Square has a square shape with dimensions of 200m x 200m. The Royal Road, main route of the medieval city leading from Floriańska Gate to the Wawel Castle, passes through the square.
