The cloth hall is one of the many symbols of Krakow. There are two rows of stalls with jewelry, souvenirs and handicrafts, often visited by tourists. On the first floor you can find the Gallery of Polish Painting and Sculpture of the 19th Century, which is a branch of the National Museum.
There is also an entrance to the Underground Market Square. One of the attractions of the cloth hall is also the famous Noworolski cafe, located on the ground floor.
The Cloth Hall was formerly a commercial building only. There were stalls here, usually with cloth (hence the name). Usually, as in the case of Krakow, they were placed in the middle of the market, near the town hall. Prince Bolesław the Chaste undertook to build the Cloth Hall in Kraków as early as in 1257. The Cloth Hall owes its present appearance to the reconstruction in 1875-1879.
