Church of St. Peter and St. Paul

Local name: Kościół św. Apostołów Piotra i Pawła

Church of St. Apostles Peter and Paul was the first Gothic building in Krakow, founded for the Jesuits by Sigismund III Vasa. In the richly decorated interior of the church, visitors can see many beautiful examples of Baroque art: stucco decorations, numerous statues and paintings, as well as a late-baroque altar. The church also has crypts.

The interesting thing is the 46.5 meter long Foucault Pendulum, which is the longest such pendulum in Poland. This device allows you to observe the rotation of the Earth.

Plans of the church were prepared and modified by several architects, but its final shape is due to Giovanni Trevano, who designed the façade, the dome and the interior design. At the beginning of the 19th century, for several years, the church building served as an Orthodox church.
