Franciscan Monastery

Local name: Klasztor Franciszkanów

The Franciscan Monastery attached to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. It houses numerous valuable monuments such as Gothic sacral frescos and polychrome and the gallery of portraits of Bishops of Kraków.

The gallery of portraits of bishops contains frescos on arcades of cloisters and paintings on planks and canvas placed in the east and south part of cloisters and the Italian Chapel. The oldest ones come from 1439 while the newest is from 2005. The gallery included much more depictions of bishops but part of them was destroyed throughout the ages.

The patio with the figure of Saint Francis of Assisi is located inside the monastery.
