Kamieniec Castle

Local name: Zamek Kamieniec

Picturesque ruins of a 14th-century defensive stronghold. Currently, the Castle Museum, interactive torture chamber and ceramics workshop operate here. Kamieniec Castle became famous in the 19th century due to one of its owners - Count Aleksander Fredro. The author of "Vengeance" drew the subject of his most famous comedy from court documents describing the dispute of two noblemen over the Kamieniec Castle ended with the wedding of their children.

The first testimonies of the Kamieniec Castle date back to 1348. It was then owned by King Casimir the Great. For several centuries it served as a defensive stronghold. During the Swedish invasion it was severely damaged and gradually turned into ruin.

Next to the military exhibition, the biggest attraction of the Kamieniec Castle is the torture chamber. It carefully assembled the executioner's tools: stocks, pillory, studded chair, knee drills, "madej bed". The uniqueness of this place is that we can try on ourselves many of the exhibits.
